Exchange rate summary

  • Exchange rate of the dollar USD to CUP: 793 CUP.
  • Exchange rate of the euro EUR to CUP: 888 CUP.
  • Exchange rate from MLC to CUP: 551 CUP (indicative value).

The start of the day confirms the trend that keeps the Cuban peso under pressure against foreign currencies.

The dollar is rising since the opening

The US dollar is traded at 793 Cuban pesos (CUP) on average in the informal market, with a purchase price of 790 CUP and a selling price of 795 CUP.

This represents an increase of five pesos compared to the previous day, when the exchange rate was at 788 CUP.

Exchange Rate Evolution

From a weekly perspective, the greenback has increased by 25 pesos compared to the 768 CUP it was at seven days ago, which represents a rise of 3.3%.

The 30-day comparison places the dollar at 98.5 pesos above the 694 CUP recorded during that period.

In the last 30 days, the dollar has reached a high of 793 CUP —today's value—and a low of 694 CUP.

The euro is advancing and remains the most expensive currency

The euro is quoted at 888 Cuban pesos (CUP) on average, with a buying price of 885 CUP and a selling price of 891 CUP. This represents an increase of three pesos compared to the previous session, when the euro was at 885 CUP.

In the past week, the European currency has risen by 24 pesos from the 864 CUP of seven days ago, an increase of 2.8%.

At 30 days, the euro is positioned 95 pesos above the 793 CUP of that period.

The highest recorded in the last month is 889 CUP and the lowest is 792 CUP.

The euro surpasses the dollar by 95 pesos, consolidating its dominant position in the Cuban parallel market.

The MLC, with indicative value due to low volume

The MLC is priced around 551 Cuban pesos (CUP) on average, with a purchase at 500 CUP and a sale at 601 CUP.

This figure should be taken with caution, as the source warns of a low volume of transactions during this time period.

Regarding the previous day, the MLC has increased by 23 pesos from the 528 CUP recorded yesterday, representing a rise of 4.4%.

However, in the last week it has declined by 47.5 pesos compared to the 598 CUP from seven days ago.

In the last 30 days, it has fluctuated between a maximum of 603 CUP and a minimum of 446 CUP.

The gap with the official rate is increasingly widening

The official exchange rate of the Central Bank of Cuba (Segment III), at 707 CUP per dollar and 791 CUP per euro, remains far below the values that prevail in everyday practice in the informal currency market.

The difference between the official and informal prices today reaches 86 pesos for the dollar and 97 pesos for the euro.

In the past month, the official dollar has risen from 655 to 707 CUP, while in the informal market it has increased from 694 to 793 CUP, demonstrating that the gap, rather than narrowing, remains structurally open.

The gap between the official exchange rate and the informal one reflects the ongoing shortage of foreign currency in the state banking system and the high demand for dollars and euros among the population, whether for emigration, importing goods, safeguarding savings, or making purchases in the private sector.
