Maura Vázquez began her return to Havana without finding her daughter, Doraiky Águila Vázquez, after traveling to Cabaiguán, in Sancti Spíritus, following a lead that had sparked new hopes in a search that has already lasted 19 months.

The mother, who has not stopped searching for Doraiky since her disappearance in March 2025, confirmed her return through a post on Facebook in which, despite not having received answers about her daughter's whereabouts, expressed her deep gratitude to the people who took her in and helped her during her stay in the province of Sancti Spíritus.

"Today I return to Havana, but I cannot leave Sancti Spíritus without expressing my deepest gratitude to the angel I have found here," Maura wrote.

His journey was motivated by information spread on social media suggesting that Doraiky might have been seen in the Cabaiguán area. With that hope, he traveled from the capital to Sancti Spíritus, where he sought the support of Yureibys Torresilla, known as "El Héroe," who is involved in humanitarian work through the project Hermanos de la Calle.

"I came in search of a Hero, but I found something greater. God has placed a golden heart on my path," the mother expressed, moved by the solidarity she encountered.

In her message, she especially mentioned Maritza Yudith in Cabaiguán, a couple who made their private vehicle available for her transportation, and others who collaborated with her.

Maura expressed her confidence that if her daughter were to arrive in that locality, she would receive the same supportive treatment that Maura found.

His message concluded with a few words addressed to Doraiky, summarizing the hope he holds onto despite the passage of time:

"My daughter, your mother is still here and I will not rest until I find you."

For his part, Torresilla confirmed that the search had not yielded the expected results.

«Maura returned from Cabaiguán without results,» she wrote on Facebook, where she expressed her dismay that Doraiky has been missing for 19 months.

The activist urged Cubans to keep actively searching and to check their neighborhoods, hospitals, and workplaces in case someone might recognize the woman and provide information about her whereabouts.

She also lamented that a mother has to travel through different provinces searching for her daughter without getting any answers.

Nineteen months without news from Doraiky

Doraiky Águila Vázquez, who was 48 years old when she disappeared, left her home in the Lawton neighborhood, Diez de Octubre municipality, in Havana, on March 15, 2025, during a nationwide blackout that affected the country.

According to his family, he suffers from episodes of transient memory loss, a condition that raises concerns about his safety and complicates the search.

Since then, Maura, a retired nurse with over four decades of experience, has traveled through streets, neighborhoods, and towns with photographs of her daughter, while seeking help through social media.

This is not the first time a lead has ended without results. In April 2026, the mother went to an address in El Vedado after information circulated that Doraiky had been seen there, but she did not manage to locate her either.

The family has repeatedly expressed concerns about the lack of progress in the investigation and even offered a reward of 350,000 Cuban pesos for reliable information on his whereabouts.
