The Cuban comedian Javier Berridy, known on social media as Javier Humor, has once again created a stir with one of his most popular characters: a cheeky Cuban customs officer who this time boasts about having stolen a supposed luxury wallet from a traveler coming from Miami.

In a funny video lasting just 17 seconds shared on Facebook, the comedian portrays the official, who is convinced she has acquired a branded accessory. However, there is a small detail she is unaware of: the coveted handbag is actually a reused bag of Royal Basmati rice.

"If you saw the purse I snatched from a guy from Miami, you'd be amazed," the character begins, proud of her supposed loot. "You know I'm something else. Besides, it’s clear that it’s a nice purse. It's a Royal brand," she adds, convinced that she holds an exclusive item in her hands.

The customs official is even planning to find out how much it costs to decide whether to sell it or keep it, although she can already imagine the stir it would cause when she shows it off: "This will be the envy of the whole town at the nightclub."

The sketch plays with the confusion between a brand of rice and a luxury firm, while satirizing the theft of belongings from travelers and the abusive practices reported at Cuban customs.

The occurrence also has a very Cuban twist: bags made from rice sacks have become popular reusable accessories. In September 2024, a Cuban woman caught attention on social media by using one of these bags as a beach purse.

The character of the customs officer is one of the recurring figures in Berridy's repertoire. In December 2024, the comedian starred in a musical parody about travelers arriving loaded with luggage from Miami, in which he popularized phrases like "I'm going to take your bags" and "a customs officer that doesn't check won't succeed."

With his usual humor and spirited characters, Javier Berridy once again pokes fun at situations familiar to many Cubans, this time featuring a customs officer who believes she has discovered a treasure, unaware that her shiny handbag is nothing more than a bag of rice.
