The Cuban comedian Javier Berridy published a new sketch in which he sarcastically depicts the profile of the perfect politician: a compulsive liar, a consummate hypocrite, a promise breaker, and one capable of switching parties depending on which way the wind blows.
The video, titled "Any resemblance is coincidental", arrives just a few days before the midterm elections in the United States.
Berridy performs a job interview for the position of "politician." The candidate responds unabashedly to each question from the interviewer: he admits to "lying with both hands," claims to be so hypocritical that his mother-in-law believes he loves her, and warns that he promises "anything" to achieve his goals, although he subsequently forgets every commitment.
The most direct moment comes when he is asked about his party: “Today I can be a Democrat and speak horrors about the Republicans. But tomorrow, if things go badly for me, I’ll switch to being a Republican and talk trash about the Democrats.”
The response regarding money is equally emphatic: "What is known does not need to be questioned." The interviewer's verdict concludes the piece: "You are an academic politician".
The sketch has accumulated over 183,000 views and dozens of comments on Facebook, where Berridy posts under the name "Javier Humor."
The midterm elections on November 3 will determine all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 in the Senate, and 36 governorships.
Berridy's satire of a politician with no fixed party directly connects with the tensions that the electorate is experiencing these days, divided between party loyalties and dissatisfaction with both parties on issues such as the economy and immigration.
Berridy, who is part of the former comedic group Punto y Coma, maintains a steady production of political content. At the beginning of October, he published a sketch about the alleged "achievements of the revolution" in Cuba.
With the new sketch, the comedian once again demonstrates that his humor knows no boundaries: the "academic politician" he portrays could sit in any seat, from any party, in any country.
