The Palm Beach County, in southern Florida, will begin accepting new applications for financial assistance for residents in need of paying overdue rent or facing the costs of a move.

According to the official announcement from the Palm Beach Department of Community Services, the application period will open at 8:00 a.m. and applications will be accepted exclusively online, with a very limited number of spots and funds available.

The county warned that applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be subject to an eligibility assessment, so submitting the form does not guarantee receiving funding.

The program is aimed at individuals and families already residing in Palm Beach who are facing economic difficulties that affect their ability to maintain their housing or move to another one.

One of the main conditions is not having received rental or relocation assistance from any county agency in the previous 12 months.

In addition, according to the official frequently asked questions of 2026, the household must meet at least one of the following conditions: have a minor under 18 years of age, include an elderly person, or have a head of household with a disability.

The consulted municipal documentation does not establish a specific minimum age to consider someone as an elderly person under this requirement, so interested parties should verify their situation with the department before applying.

What documents are needed to apply for the assistance?

Applicants must demonstrate that they experienced a financial crisis during the 90 days preceding the application, in addition to providing documents that verify their income, family situation, and amounts owed to the landlord.

Among the documents that the county may require are a government-issued photo ID for each adult in the household, the Social Security card of the head of the household, the current lease agreement, and documents that verify the income received during the previous two months.

Receipts for salaries, letters for public benefits or unemployment can also be requested, as well as, when applicable, tax statements and profit and loss statements from independent workers.

In cases of delinquent rent, notices of late payment, eviction notifications, and an account statement prepared by the landlord detailing the outstanding balance may be required.

The department warns that one of the common causes of delays or rejections is submitting incomplete, expired documents or those that do not clearly demonstrate the recent economic crisis.

Assistance for rent does not cover payments for future months, according to the rules published for this call. Its purpose is to address existing obligations and needs assessed by the county.

Regarding moving, authorities indicate that assistance is generally limited to homes within Palm Beach County and is intended for residents who already live in that jurisdiction.

Individuals planning to move out of the county or Florida may not meet the qualifications and should consult with the program before signing a new contract.

The program does not handle the search for housing for the applicants, who must find the property they wish to move to on their own.

Families receiving housing subsidies through Section 8 do not qualify for assistance intended for rent payment, as they already have support for that expense.

However, the frequently asked questions include an exception for relocation: households with Section 8 or public housing can request assistance solely for the security deposit, as long as they meet the other conditions.

Another important detail is that the approved funds are not given directly to the tenant. Payments are made to the property owner or manager, who must be registered as a provider with the county.

The authorities clarify that they cannot transfer the funds to a court, even in the event of legal proceedings for unpaid rent.

If a resident has already received an eviction notice, they can submit their application if they meet the requirements, but the procedure does not automatically suspend or delay the judicial process. In such cases, the county recommends seeking legal assistance immediately.

Where to submit the application?

Interested parties should visit the Palm Beach County electronic services portal when the application period opens on Wednesday, November 4, at 8:00 a.m.

You can also check the official rental and relocation assistance page, where opening dates, announcements, and changes in availability are posted.

For inquiries, the Community Services Department has the phone number 833-273-9455 and the email CSDCares@pbc.gov available.

The entity warns that applications may fill up quickly due to high demand and that there is no fixed deadline for completing the review of each file.

Approved requests go through several stages of document verification and financial authorization before payment is issued to the owner.

This call for applications is different from the aid announced recently in other areas of South Florida.

In Broward County, the city of Miramar will launch a program of up to $8,000 to cover the initial costs of a new rental home, including the deposit and certain entry payments.

In Miami-Dade County, North Miami offers assistance of up to $4,800 for moving-related expenses, with its own eligibility criteria.
