Two Cuban citizens were expelled from Russia for lacking the necessary documentation to reside and work legally in the country. Additionally, the authorities imposed a five-year entry ban into Russian territory.

The measure was implemented in the Nizhni Novgorod region, as reported by the regional newspaper Nizhegorodskaya Pravda, which cited information from the Regional Directorate of the Federal Service of Bailiffs of Russia.

According to the report, the two Cubans did not have documents that verified their right to temporarily remain in the country and engage in work activities.

Before their expulsion, both were held in a temporary detention center for foreign nationals, where they awaited the execution of the administrative measure.

Once the necessary procedures were completed, Russian judicial agents escorted them to a border control checkpoint, where they were handed over to border service officials.

The authorities did not disclose the identities or ages of those affected. They also did not specify how long they had been in Russia, the circumstances under which the immigration irregularities were detected, or the exact date of their expulsion.

In February 2025, two Cuban migrants were deported from the city of Nizhnevartovsk, nearly 3,000 kilometers east of Moscow, after exceeding their legal period of stay in the country. Both were taken to a temporary detention center prior to their expulsion.

In April of this year, relatives of Cuban migrants reported that their loved ones were being sent to the Sájarovo deportation center, near Moscow, where they were allegedly held for indefinite periods and faced difficulties in communicating with the outside world.

More recently, in October, a journalistic investigation documented the cases of 11 Cubans transferred from Russia to Uzbekistan between March and September, without having been informed in advance of their destination. Those affected reported that they expected to return to Cuba, but ended up in a third country, some without money or means to continue their journey.

According to data published by Nizhegorodskaya Pravda on October 12, 1,340 foreign nationals had been expelled from the Nizhni Novgorod region since the beginning of 2026 due to violations of immigration regulations.
