The Milwaukee Brewers became World Series champions for the first time in their 58-season history this Wednesday by defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in the fifth game held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The franchise, which was established in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots and moved to Milwaukee the following year, took nearly six decades to reach the pinnacle of Major League Baseball. Its only previous appearance in a World Series had been in 1982, when they let a 3-1 lead slip away in the seventh game and fell to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The pitcher Jacob Misiorowski, 24 years old, was the dominant figure of the decisive game: he completed five and two-thirds innings without allowing any runs, giving up only two hits, before leaving due to cramps in his right calf. He finished the World Series with a record of 2-0 and an ERA of 0.84, and during the regular season, he led Major League Baseball in strikeouts (252) and ERA (1.80).
"I don’t even have words. It’s incredible, just seeing my boys celebrate. And the city—I know they’re going crazy in Milwaukee. It’s great," said Misiorowski after the game.
On offense, rookie Cooper Pratt, 22 years old, shone brightly, contributing two hits and two runs batted in, and setting a record for debutants in a World Series by hitting six consecutive hits. Pratt, who only arrived in the Major Leagues in June, did not hide his astonishment: "This is one of the best moments of my life, oh my God, it doesn’t even feel real! This is surreal. It's only been four months!"
The Venezuelan catcher William Contreras was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the World Series. He batted an average of .381 over the five games, with eight hits and four runs batted in, including a two-run double in the sixth inning of the decisive game that extended the lead to 4-0. He thus became the third Venezuelan to win this honor, following Pablo Sandoval in 2012 and Salvador Pérez in 2015, and the eighth catcher to achieve this in the entire history of the World Series. Contreras was also part of the Venezuelan team that won the World Baseball Classic in March 2026, making this year a historic one for him.
Another Venezuelan, Jackson Chourio, set his own record by accumulating 11 hits in a World Series played over five games.
On the Tampa Bay side, the Cuban Yandy Díaz couldn't avoid the defeat. The first baseman was struck out by Misiorowski to close the fifth inning, one of the images that encapsulated the dominance of the young starter. The only run for the Rays came in the ninth inning when Chandler Simpson hit a run-scoring double against closer Trevor Megill, but it was not enough.
The manager Pat Murphy, 67 years old and a two-time winner of the National League Manager of the Year award (2024 and 2025), led the Brewers with a philosophy centered on teamwork over individual statistics. "This group of guys here, the 2026 team, will be remembered forever—and they deserve it because they were a team," Murphy stated.
The Brewers, competing in the smallest market in Major League Baseball, have shown that a modest roster is no obstacle to winning the title, focusing on contact, speed, and strength on the mound.
“Milwaukee has waited 44 years, and Milwaukee, you have your world championship,” proclaimed the principal owner Mark Attanasio from the award stage on the field, in front of thousands of Brewers fans who had traveled to Florida to witness the historic moment.
