A Cuban citizen and a Peruvian citizen were arrested in Rome, Italy, for their alleged involvement in handbag thefts at bars in the capital. According to the police, they used a rented car and communicated through an earpiece to coordinate their movements.

The detainees were allegedly moving through various establishments while one stayed at the wheel, ready to escape, while the other approached customers to take their belongings.

The case was reported by the regional media Anagnia, as part of a review of interventions carried out by the Police and Carabinieri in the previous days.

The two men are being investigated for alleged aggravated theft committed together.

This is how the alleged theft method operated

According to the police reconstruction, the suspects used a rented vehicle to move between different bars in Rome, while maintaining communication through wireless devices.

One stayed inside the car, ready to leave the place quickly, while the other moved among the customers of the establishments.

The plainclothes officers from the Romanina police station began to follow them after receiving information about a vehicle allegedly linked to the theft of a bag on Via Teano Street.

The police located the car on Via di Tor Cervara and began to monitor its movements while making several stops at different locations in the city, including Via Giuseppe Marcotti and Via Bari.

The decisive moment arrived at Piazza dell'Indipendenza when the investigators noticed the passenger exiting an establishment with a woman's handbag.

According to authorities, both occupants attempted to leave the area but got stuck in traffic on Via Marsala.

The congestion prevented the car from moving forward, and the officers were able to intercept it.

During the vehicle registration, the agents found two women's bags and 790 euros in cash, which were seized.

The Cuban and Peruvian citizens were arrested on suspicion of aggravated theft in conjunction.

The information released does not specify which of the detainees was driving the vehicle and which one was responsible for entering the establishments.

The arrests were subsequently ratified by the Italian judicial authority, although the investigation does not represent a declaration of guilt.

Another Cuban was reported for irregularities in his documentation

The same police report notes a second incident involving a Cuban citizen, which took place during security checks in another area of Rome.

In a commercial establishment in Piazza Conca d'Oro, the police reported another Cuban citizen after discovering an electronic identity card that lacked the corresponding chip.

The case emerged in the context of an operation that also uncovered a presumably altered identity document lacking the corresponding electronic chip, found in the possession of another individual intercepted on Via dei Prati Fiscali.

In these operations, conducted mainly in the northeastern sector of Rome, 269 individuals were identified and 21 vehicles were checked. The outcome included three reports.

The identity and age of the Cuban citizen reported in Piazza Conca d'Oro were not disclosed, nor were any other details regarding their case specified.

This is an independent intervention regarding the arrests related to the alleged handbag thefts, with no connections established by the authorities between the two investigations.

The police report came in the midst of a series of interventions against property crimes and other offenses in Rome, which included actions in commercial establishments, residential homes, and public spaces.
