A Cuban resident of Coco Solo neighborhood in the municipality of Bayamo, province of Granma, posted on Facebook on Thursday a report about the condition of a road that has turned into a dirt path filled with deep grooves, mud, and large puddles that hinder passage.
Neldis Maceo Cabrera accompanied her post with two photographs showing the unpaved road, flooded and practically impassable, and made a call for collective action: "It's impossible alone, but together we can; 95% of the people in Julia and Mabay pass through here, solutions, not criticism."
A user pointed out that the problem also affects the entrance to the Politécnico, the General Estrada street in front of OFICODA, and access to other areas of the neighborhood: "I won't continue because all the streets in Julia are completely destroyed."
Another person insisted that the situation on that street is even more serious and that nobody cares: "General Estrada Street in front of OFICODA, that's much worse, and who cares? No one."
A former resident who claims to have left Mabay in 2023 warned that the deterioration is not new: "It has already been like this, critical, just like the entire Julia-Mabay road." "It's sad to see how we are sinking in the muck and nobody cares," wrote a neighbor.
"Right now, they are only focused on bringing the cane to the mill or transporting the rice from the fields to where it is dried, but who is concerned about doing something for the roads? They make so much money from rice or cane, yet no one allocates even a small percentage of the profits to the roads," noted a resident.
"My neighborhood is sinking, please do something, even if it's just throwing stones, for the love of God," pleaded another person.
75% of the country's roads were in regular or poor condition, according to data from 2025. The Ministry of Transport acknowledged before the National Assembly that during the first half of 2024, only 22.3% of the pothole repair plan was executed, with 12 out of 25 asphalt plants shut down.
In Granma, Hurricane Melissa in November 2025 left several sections impassable in the region, and in September of this year, a severe landslide was reported on the Bayamo-Manzanillo road that endangered drivers.
Bayamo has also accumulated numerous citizen complaints in 2026 regarding streets blocked with garbage and debris, attributed to a lack of fuel and the breakdown of collection trucks.
