“Internal errors have far exceeded the damage of the embargo”: Cuban criticizes the management of the leaders

"The events are unfolding rapidly in our homeland, our internal situation is going from bad to worse, and we are still without a single solution that genuinely benefits the people," stated a Cuban who identifies as a sailor on Facebook.

Frank Montada Rodríguez wrote an extensive critical analysis of the situation in Cuba, arguing that the government's poor decisions have caused more harm to the country than the U.S. embargo itself. He reviews one by one the main failures of the government's management: the monetary reform of 2021, the push for banking, the electricity crisis, the shortage of water, the accumulation of garbage, rampant inflation, and the unpaid external debt.

"The famous monetary reform was and continues to be a total disaster." "Banking services are another complete disaster," writes Montada Rodriguez, who adds that the lack of connectivity has turned electronic payments into an additional burden for the population, despite the fact that the president of ETECSA promised that foreign currency income would be allocated to improve communications.

"The electricity situation no longer has anything to offer; it worsens day by day, and from what can be seen, nothing is going to improve, and this coming winter will be terrible," he remarked about the prolonged blackouts.

"The country is unhealthy, the issue with garbage collection is beyond words, numerous viruses are circulating and seriously affecting the population," denounces Montada Rodriguez. The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources had acknowledged days earlier that 2.14 million people —27.4% of the population— were experiencing interruptions in the supply of drinking water.

In economic matters, the author warned that the dollar is making its way into the informal market and that the decline of the peso continues towards 900 and 1,000 pesos. The dollar surpassed the 850 peso barrier for the first time last Monday, marking a historical high. Official inflation reached 28.44% year-on-year in September, with food prices rising by 42.66% during that period.

Montada Rodriguez recalls the warning made by Marino Murillo before the National Assembly in December 2020: "If we fall into rampant inflation, we won't have a way out." And she concludes: "Inflation is no longer rampant; it is out of control."

"Why have the errors and catastrophic decisions that have been made not been corrected? Why are we in this overwhelming situation with the country, economy, and population in such a deplorable state that we have been led to? And there is still no truthful solution to all the existing destruction that is visible to everyone," he questioned.

The author also points to external debt as a symptom of failure: Cuba has received debt relief amounting to tens of billions of dollars —including approximately 29 billion dollars of Soviet debt that Russia forgave in 2015— without the Cuban government fulfilling the subsequent payment agreements.

Regarding repression, Montada Rodriguez points out that "there is a high number of political prisoners that also wants to remain unacknowledged" and that "recognized human rights are being violated." Prisoners Defenders counted 1,372 political prisoners in Cuba as of October 1, 2026.

Frank Montada Rodríguez acknowledges that the embargo exists and has an impact, but he clarifies: "The mistakes and decisions that have been made, and without correction—which is wise—have far exceeded the damage caused by it."

"In the Navy, there is a saying: A KNOWN ERROR IS NOT AN ERROR, it is quite clear; if we know that it exists, IT MUST BE CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY, because the consequences are terrible, incalculable; well, we have felt and experienced this harshly for a long time. Why hasn't the course towards what is right been corrected when we know that this regime can no longer continue? Why keep prolonging the decision towards the thoughts and actions of Martí? Let's finally fulfill that dream of the Master of Masters, the most universal of all Cubans and our APOSTLE Don José Julián Martí Pérez. The REPUBLIC, HUMANIST AND DEMOCRATIC WITH ALL AND FOR THE GOOD OF ALL. That is my opinion," he concluded.
