The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested Cuban citizen Pedro Álvarez Rodríguez on October 20 in Orlando, Florida. His record includes convictions for theft and identity theft, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The case is mentioned in a statement published by DHS this Friday, in which the agency highlighted five recent detentions of foreigners in Florida. The authorities described the Cuban as an undocumented immigrant.

According to the information released by the department, Álvarez Rodríguez also has recorded arrests for physical assault against a law enforcement officer, violent resistance to an officer, and speeding.

The background of the case distinguishes these arrests from convictions for theft and identity theft.

The five detentions reported by the DHS occurred between October 8 and October 20 in Orlando, Ocala, and Cocoa. In addition to the Cuban, the statement included two Haitian nationals and two Vietnamese nationals.

Among them are Djina Christelle Maurice from Haiti, who was arrested on October 14 in Ocala and has a conviction for vehicular homicide, and Jean Joel Joseph, also from Haiti, who was detained on October 19 in Orlando and has a conviction for domestic violence, according to the DHS.

The other two cases involve Tai Ngoc Ly from Vietnam, arrested on October 8 in Orlando, who has convictions for sexual assault, robbery, and burglary; and Dinh Doan, also from Vietnam, detained on October 16 in Cocoa, who has a conviction for arson of an occupied structure.

The announcement of the arrest of Pedro Álvarez Rodríguez adds to other recent cases of Cubans detained by ICE. On October 30, Carlos Javier Alamo-Sorino was placed in immigration custody after admitting to having voted illegally in a U.S. election.

According to information from ICE, he had previous convictions for sexual assault, another sexual offense, robbery, theft, and harassing communications.

One day earlier, on October 29, the case of Armando Suárez emerged, included by the DHS in its campaign "The Worst of the Worst." The agency attributed convictions to him for drug trafficking, theft, and possession of counterfeit credit cards in Miami, Florida. According to that information, his arrest by ICE occurred on Wednesday, October 28.

The platform "Lo peor de lo peor" was launched on December 8, 2025, to disseminate information about immigrants in irregular situations who have been arrested and have criminal records attributed to them by the authorities.

By the end of September 2026, it surpassed 40,000 profiles. In February, DHS acknowledged errors in some of the records and made corrections following reports from the media.

Este caso forma parte de una tendencia más amplia de operaciones migratorias en Florida y todo el país. Sigue los detalles en nuestra sección de
