A paraglider landed this Friday on the grounds of the Cristóbal Labra stadium in Nueva Gerona, while the match between the Piratas de la Isla de la Juventud and the Vegueros de Pinar del Río was taking place.
The moment was captured in a video shared on Facebook by the All in 1 Deportes page. The broadcast of the match was interrupted when the commentator drew attention to the presence of a paraglider over the playing field.

"A paraglider has just landed here," he commented in surprise, before explaining that the flights usually take place in a nearby area. "They do it regularly in one of the spots they have after launching from the hills," he added.
The explanation suggests that the landing may have coincided with the usual descent path of those participating in this activity on the hills surrounding the stadium. However, the video does not provide further details about the circumstances of the flight.
The match ended with a victory for Pinar del Río by 8-6, marking the seventh consecutive win for the Vegueros, who are leading the Western Zone with a record of 18 wins and four losses.
The Pirates, for their part, are going through a tough season. At the end of last week, they were at the bottom of the Western Group, with only three wins and 13 losses.
The episode also refers to the accident that occurred in July on the Island of Youth itself, when a 12-year-old boy died during a tandem paragliding flight. Following the incident, the Aviation Club of Cuba temporarily suspended this type of flights nationwide.
The restriction did not include individual sports flights, which continued outside of that ban.
The scene took place during an edition of the Serie Nacional characterized by material limitations. The tournament began on October 4 with a reduced schedule of 75 to 44 games per team and a division into geographical zones to reduce fuel costs.
The problems have gone beyond the conditions of the competition. This Friday, the match between Matanzas and Mayabeque had to be suspended because the Matanzas players did not have water in their accommodation for drinking, bathing, or cooking.
Thus, while a paraglider surprised spectators at Cristóbal Labra, the National Series added another unusual episode to a season where everyday challenges have also become central characters.
As the page that shared the paragliding video summarized: "The National Series always surprises. Just when you thought you had seen it all."
