This Halloween Saturday, Cuban artists and influencers living abroad showcased their creativity on Instagram with elaborate costumes, professional photo shoots, and humorous scripts that left no one indifferent.
Heydy González, along with her partner Eddy Borges and their daughter Galilea, starred in a vampiric photo shoot of impeccable production: black capes with red lining, special effects makeup with wounds and fangs, bouquets of black roses, and dramatic nighttime lighting. The family posed outdoors against a backdrop of dry trees, in images that seem pulled from a horror movie. "What we have is for all eternity... and we take the role very seriously," González wrote, adding, "in this family, even the scares are shared."
Lianet Marti, known as "La Mija," chose the characters from Shrek: she posted a ten-second reel with her family featuring the song "All Star" by Smash Mouth — an iconic theme from the animated movie — along with the question "Guess who the donkey is?", leaving her followers speculating about her portrayal of the beloved character.
Juliette Valle transformed into a witch with great flair for a nearly two-minute reel set in Miami. Her character, the evil witch from the Snow White tale, visits an aesthetic clinic and emerges completely rejuvenated: "Oh my God, these lips look gorgeous. And I don't have a single wrinkle, neck stretched, 100 years younger," says the transformed witch before declaring herself ready for "the night of hunting."
Rachel Arderi took her family into a storybook world with a themed production of Aladdin. She dressed as Princess Jasmine in a turquoise outfit and golden tiara; her partner Bebeshito embodied Aladdin, wearing a red turban and a purple vest; one of their children transformed into the Genie with a painted blue face and a magic lamp in hand, and little Mia became Abu the monkey, sporting his signature red cap. All of this was set against a backdrop of colorful domes reminiscent of the palace of Agrabah. "A Whole New World," titled the family post.
Samantha Hernández chose a zombie and horror movie aesthetic with a photo shoot featuring special effects makeup that simulated wounds, dark veins, and artificial blood on torn clothing, resulting in visually striking images.
This tradition of elaborate costumes within the Cuban exile community has strengthened year after year, with figures like Leoni Torres dressed as Elvis Presley in 2023 or Camila Cabello as a Tropicana dancer in 2024, confirming that Cuban talent and creativity know no bounds, not even on the darkest night of the year.
