76% of American voters disapproved of Congress's performance this Tuesday, while 59% rejected the performance of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and 58% expressed similar disapproval towards the Supreme Court, according to preliminary results of NBC News' exit poll released during the midterm election day.

The data, published by Maureen Michaels from the NBC News Exit Poll Desk based on responses collected until 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, ranks Congress as the least-rated institution of the three: only one in four voters approved of its performance.

ICE and the Supreme Court received similar rejection levels, with approvals of 41% and 42%, respectively.

The results reveal a deep partisan divide in the evaluation of these institutions. 81% of Republican voters approved of ICE's work, compared to just 5% of Democrats, a gap of 76 percentage points.

Regarding the Supreme Court, approximately three-quarters of Republicans viewed it favorably, compared to only 15% of Democrats.

The Congress also divided voters by their affiliation: 46% of Republicans approved of its management compared to 9% of Democrats, although even within the Republican Party itself, the majority—54%—disapproved of the legislative work.

The survey, conducted by the firm SSRS on behalf of a consortium that includes NBC News, ABC News, AP, CBS News, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC, involved interviewers at over 450 polling places spread across 15 key Senate states.

The rejection of these institutions is set against a backdrop of widespread discontent with the Trump administration: 62% of voters disapproved of the presidential management in the same exit poll, a figure significantly higher than the 55% disapproval recorded in the 2018 midterms.

The immigration policy was one of the main sources of discontent. The 57% of voters felt that Trump's immigration measures had gone too far, in a year when ICE reached record numbers of arrests — nearly 51,000 in August — with more than half of those detained having no criminal record.

The economy also affected the mood of the electorate: 79% indicated that the rise in prices was causing difficulties for their families and 62% directly blamed Trump for the increase in the cost of goods and services.

The results of the exit poll are preliminary and may vary as more responses are gathered throughout the election night.
