Karel Daniel Hernández Bosques, a member of the independent collective Fuera de la Caja Cuba, published a video on X this Sunday, where he recounted his experience during 12 hours of interrogation by the Cuban political police and accompanied his post with a warning: "Don't be fooled. This is the true socialism... ¡Repression!".
"This is me after twelve hours of being interrogated by the political police of Cuba, all for creating content on social media," the young man begins in the video, recorded after his release on Friday night.
The message is explicitly directed at "all those cardboard socialists fighting against capitalism around the world," said the young man, who asserted that his personal story reveals "the true face of communism and the Cuban government."
Hernández Bosques described three lines of pressure that the State Security agents exerted on him during the interrogation at the police unit on Aguilera Street, in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, Havana, where he went along with his associate Mauro Reigosa Pérez after receiving a summons.
The first accusation was that of being a mercenary: "That day I was accused of being a mercenary paid by the Yankees, as if the only possible explanation for not thinking like them was being a traitor to my country."
The second was the attempt to isolate him from his surroundings: "They insisted that I distance myself from my friends, as if I couldn't decide for myself."
The third was the direct threat of jail: "They threatened me time and again that if I didn’t stop making these kinds of videos, they would thoroughly enjoy locking me up."
The young man then posed a question: "How is it possible that there are still people willing to defend a system that doesn't hesitate to threaten young people like me with prison just for making videos?"
He stated that he is not willing to "endorse police deployments against independent journalists, to ignore the thousands of political prisoners who at most have gone out on the street with a cardboard sign asking for justice." He closed his video with a straightforward phrase: "Down with the Cuban dictatorship."
The detention of Hernández Bosques occurred during a week of escalating repression in Cuba.
On Thursday, journalist Yoani Sánchez was held for nearly nine hours by State Security; on Friday, the political police deployed operations in front of the homes of several activists and journalists to prevent them from attending an event at the United States Embassy; and journalist Adelth Bonne Gamboa was fined 3,000 pesos and had his work equipment confiscated under Decree-Law 370.
Outside the Box Cuba is a youth collective founded in early 2026 in the Cerro municipality of Havana. Its members—twenty-somethings identifiable by their red hats featuring the slogan "Make Cuba Great Again"—produce videos and digital content that promotes liberal perspectives.
The group has faced systematic repression, phone disabling, account hacking, intimidating visits to family members, and repeated police summons.
Reigosa Pérez, spokesperson for the group, stated: "We are experiencing a wave of repression against all Cubans who are engaged in content creation or political activism. All those who speak the political truth about this country are being harassed."
