The leader of the Democratic minority in Congress, Nancy Pelosi, was scolded by Cuban supporters of Trump upon arriving at a political event held in Miami.
Shouting "damn communist", she was greeted by a group of protesters when she was about to enter an event to support the candidacies of Donna Shalala and Debbie Murcarsel-Power.
The controversy broke out when these citizens learned that California Representative Barbara Lee was going to join the legislators at this event, which was held on Wednesday afternoon in Coral Gables.
However, the visit of Lee, a supporter of the Cuban Government, was cancelled. Despite everything, tempers did not calm down and Pelosi once again received loud shouts when the event ended.
Some protesters attacked Lee and Pelosi, whom they questioned for supporting Obama's policies towards Cuba.
Despite everything, the Democratic candidate for Congress, Debbie Murcarsel-Power, defended that the governments of Cuba, Venezuela or Nicaragua "are illegitimate dictatorships." Donna Shalala, who rejected the existing political order in these countries, expressed herself along the same lines.
On Wednesday the Republican candidate María Elvira Salazar was involved in a tense debate with Shalala. Both are opting to win the seat for District 27 of Florida in the elections next November.
"Ms. Shalala should reconsider and cancel that press conference with Ms. Barbara Lee, because that is an offense and a lack of sensitivity to the prisoners, the executed and the exiles who live here in Miami," said the journalist about the controversial act.
But Shalala claimed not to know anything about said conference although District 26 candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell had previously assured in an email that Lee would be present at the Coral Gables event.
