Baked apples with sugar, cinnamon, and rum

Note

This is a delicious dessert best enjoyed warm, especially on chilly days. The touch of rum combined with cinnamon makes the syrup irresistible.

Ingredients

  1. 1 apple per diner
  2. brown or white sugar
  3. powdered cinnamon
  4. rum of any type

Instructions

Preparation:

  1. Remove the heart from the apple with a knife, being careful not to cut through it.
  2. Make sure there are no seeds left inside.
  3. Place the apples on the tray where you will bake them. Next, fill the holes you have opened completely with sugar, ground cinnamon, and a splash of any rum you have. If you have removed too much pulp, recover the seedless portions by cutting them into small pieces and putting them back into the hole.
  4. Once you have stuffed the apples with the mixture, sprinkle more sugar, cinnamon, and rum on the tray so that the syrup is also made in the tray.
  5. If the apple cracks a little while you're handling it, it doesn't matter because it's a quite firm fruit and won't fall apart in the oven.

Baking preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees, both top and bottom, while you prepare the apples, so it will be hot when you’re ready to put them in.
  2. Place the tray in the center and let it sit for about 25 to 30 minutes. When the skin of the apples has peeled off, they will be ready. This will depend on the type of apple and the oven. Apples take time to cook and should be soft; otherwise, you will find them very hard when cut with a spoon. It’s better to leave them a few more minutes if the skin has not yet detached.

Serve and enjoy:

You can enjoy it as a warm dessert on its own or add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top to savor the contrast of the two temperatures.
