Isora and Medardo are living on a tightrope because a mistake has left them undocumented in Spain, reportedCanarian Television.

Both have held Spanish nationality since 2010 and have resided since 2013 in Fuerteventura, the second largest island of the Canary Islands.

Recently the consulate in Cuba has withdrawn their passport and ID because they allege that their grandfather, a Gran Canarian, had renounced Spanish nationality.

“We are without documents, with my children in Cuba and my older sister who is very bad. We cannot travel and we will lose our Cuban residency if we do not do so before May,” Isora explains desperately.

“I have proof that I am Spanish… if the consulate made the mistake when completing the procedures, we cannot pay,” he adds.

This couple asks that the situation be analyzed, once the Grandchildren Law is approved in Spain. They had obtained Spanish nationality through the Historical Memory Law and with this decision they have remained undocumented.

“We are prisoners on this island,” Medardo concluded.
