Cuban actress Ana de Armas He is experiencing one of his best professional moments after the success of his recently released film Knives Out, a thriller in which he shares the screen with Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis and Daniel Craig, and for which, he admits, he did not want to audition.
The artist confessed during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that, when she received the offer to play nurse Marta Cabrera, she rejected it and refused to audition, as she considered that the character fed stereotypes of Latin women.
When they told her about the character, she assumed it was "a pretty Latina caregiver," but shortly after she was able to read the script and realized that it was an interesting and complex character, and a good opportunity.
"I received an email that described the character like this (a pretty Latina caregiver), without more information and without a script because it was a highly confidential project. The truth is, it didn't catch my attention. Latinas are generally not at the center of a film, especially in the context in which this film takes place," De Armas explained.
The actress revealed that her perception of the character from the email "was not positive or exciting in relation to Latin culture," but that when she was finally able to read the script "I realized that that description did not fit at all because Marta is very further".
Upon discovering that it wasn't just a Latina maid, she was in for a big surprise: "I just couldn't believe that Marta was at the center of the story. I also couldn't believe that she was the moral heart of the movie."
