Cuban Ana de Armas nominated for the 2020 Golden Globes

The Cuban will compete for the award with actresses Cate Blanchett, Emma Thompson, Beanie Feldstein and Awkwafina.

Cuban actressAna de Armas has been nominated for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards, whose list of nominations came to light this Monday.

The artist competes in the candidacy ofActress leading comedy or musical for her role as nurse Marta Cabrera in the recently released filmKnives Out ODaggers in the back, by American film producer and director Rian Johnson.

This is the first nomination that Ana de Armas has received at the Golden Globes, where she will compete for the statuette in her section with the artists Cate Blanchett, for her work inWhere are you, Bernadette?; Emma Thompson byLate Night; Beanie Feldstein byBooksmart and Awkwafina forThe Farewell.

The Golden Globes awards gala, awarded each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be held on January 5 at the Beverly Hills hotel and will be presented, for the fifth time, by British comedian Ricky Gervais.

Knives Out, for its part, was released in theaters on November 27, 2019 under the Lionsgate production company. In addition to the Cuban actress, the film has a star cast made up of Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Katherine Langford and Christopher Plummer, among others.

As Ana de Armas herself recently commented during an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, when she obtained the proposal to play Marta Cabrerahe rejected her and refused to audition, since she believed that the character fed stereotypes of Latina women.

However, once she had the script in her hands and was able to discover the entire plot and emotional charge that the role contained, she saw that it was a good opportunity and that "Marta was much more" than a pretty face.

In addition toKnives Out, Ana de Armas has participated this year in other juicy films that will be released in the coming months. Among them we find the twenty-fifth installment of the James Bond saga, No Time to Die andBlonde, in which he steps into the shoes of the missing star Marilyn Monroe.
