The Cuban authorities denied the change of precautionary measure presented by the defense of the young CubanLuis Robles, imprisoned for demonstrating with a sign on San Rafael Boulevard, in Havana, last December.
"Well, the one that was denied by the lawyer was requested in July and was based on what the president (of the Supreme Court) said following July 11, that in Cuba they do not repress people who have another way of thinking. , nor that they demonstrate peacefully," said Landy Fernández, Robles' brother, toRadio Marti.
Robles' lawyerrequested the change of precautionary measure again this August 2, based on the words of the president of the Supreme Court on July 24, when he highlighted that demonstrating is a constitutional right in Cuba.
Fernández reported that one of the prisoners at the Combinado del Este called him to tell him that Robles had been taken from his cell, and they did not know where they had taken him.
"The prisoners who are with him there right now do not know his status, they do not know where he is, if he is in a punishment cell, they do not know anything about his situation and that was several days ago," he stated.
The trial of Luis Robles, scheduled for July 16, was suspended as a result of the 11J demonstrations. The young Cuban, who is not affiliated with any opposition organization or related to activism on the island, was arrested at the beginning of last December for demonstrating with a sign in the central Havana artery, for the release of the rapper.Denis Solis and the end of repression in Cuba. He was sentenced to six years in prison for "enemy propaganda and disobedience."
