Tourist shows Cuban supermarket and goes viral

Dozens of users assume that socialism is the path that leads to this shortage.


Lenis Rena, a YouTuber of Nicaraguan origin who recently visited Cuba, shared with his followers onTik Tok the extreme shortage of a supermarket he visited on the island.

The short video - just 17 seconds - went viral with more than five thousand comments, many of them describing the images as "very sad" and assuming thatSocialism is the path that leads to such a reality.

"Venezuela 2016"; "Romania in the 80s"; "Bulgaria 1985"; "In the USSR before '89, we even had ration coupons. It was horrible", commented users of different nationalities, revealing that such an experience of scarcity was not foreign to them precisely in countries that have experienced socialism.

"When I went, there was nowhere to buy gum"said another tourist who visited the island, who was grateful for being cautious and carrying medicine, because there was nothing in Cuba.

Lenis Rena has not issued any other criteria regarding her trip to Cuba, beyond some photos that she has shared on her social networks in which it is seen that in addition to Havana she visited Viñales, Varadero and other tourist places.

In the case of Cuba, the warnings and advice section was not negligible. During his visit to the country, he shared with his followers his experiences on the island, including theinformal money exchange on the street, as well as rides or other incidents related to scam attempts or requests for money.
