A blackout stopped the ball game taking place at the Victoria de Girón stadium in Matanzas on Tuesday, the fourth match of theplay off semifinal of the current National Series.
Immediately the spectators in attendance turned on the lights of their cell phones and at least the stands were somewhat illuminated.
"The power went out in the stadium in the middle of the Matanzas-Las Tunas game, and despite the blackout, no one left until the electricity came on," he said in hisFacebook Iraida Ramírez from Matanzas.
The profile ofFacebook "Cuban Baseball" reported that the power outage occurred at the time when Erisbel Arruebarrena was at bat with a count of three balls and two strikes, and two teammates on base.
"The final pitch would come from the relief pitcher, when in an eastern ordeal, the Victoria was filled with darkness. Instantly the amateur lights came on to the rescue," he described.
The Provincial Government of Matanzas, which broadcast the match live on its accountFacebook, described it as a "heartbreaking game with controversial refereeing, play calls and power failures."
According to his report, an "unusual" blackout stopped the actions at a decisive moment for the local team, but "in a few minutes the unforeseen event was resolved."
The match continued and ended with victory for Las Tunas, which is one step away from reaching its third final in recent years, after its third victory in the semifinal. There would only be one more left to discuss the title.
HeIn March, Victoria de Girón launched a lighting system in one of its towers, as part of the restorations that the government carried out at the venue before the start of the 62nd National Baseball Series.
"Great news that many were waiting for. In the image: the first tower of the Victoria de Girón stadium with its lighting system. First step for the completion of the system in the other towers and the respective tests that will be carried out," announced the local stationRadio 26.
Several national series matches have suffered from insufficient lighting in the stadiums. Many times the games scheduled for the afternoon have had to change their schedule due to lack of visibility.
