The United States intercepts two young Cubans on a precarious boat

The incredible “boat” in which the two Cubans crossed the dangerous Strait of Florida is apparently made of wood, canvas and polyfoam, it has dimensions no larger than one meter wide by two meters long, with a sail, rudder and oars.

two young people Cuban rafters They were intercepted by the US Coast Guard (USCG) when they were trying to reach the coast of Florida in a precarious “boat” and returned to Cuba this Tuesday, according to authorities.

A tweet from the USCG noted that crews from that agency “repatriated two people to Cuba, on Tuesday, following an interception of a ship off the coast of Florida last week” by Coast Guard “patrolling to save lives and prevent the illegal maritime migration.”

The photo accompanying the publication shows the incredible “boat” in which the Cubans crossed the dangerous Straits of Florida. The artifact is apparently made of wood, canvas and polyfoam, has dimensions no greater than one meter wide by two meters long, with a sail, rudder and oars.

It barely has space for two people sitting or standing!, as seen in the image.

Last week, USCG crews repatriated or transferred a total of 123 migrants to third countries, according to another publication by the agency on its social networks.

Border authorities stressed to potential migrants that “attempting to enter the US illegally by sea may disqualify you from legal immigration pathways” and warned anyone intercepted: “You will be rescued and repatriated to your country of origin.”

Last July, 7,486 Cuban immigrants arrived at US border points; 3,379 of them did so by sea, according to data from the Department of Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

In recent days, the Coast Guard and Border Patrol have intercepted several groups of rafters, either at sea or after making landfall, respectively.

The previous week, the coast guard intercepted a boat with 25 migrants on board in Bahamas waters and handed them over to the authorities of that country.

A few days earlier, Border Patrol troops detained six Cuban immigrants who managed to reach the Florida Keys.
