Cuban player Yasiel Puig talks about his impulsive character: “In 2013 I didn't keep quiet about anyone”

“The first words that come out in English are the bad ones,” Puig said in an interview in which he reviewed some of his episodes of violence on the ground.

The Cuban baseball playerYasiel Puig He spoke about his impulsive character that led him to get into several fights during his time in the Major Leagues (MLB) and attributed it to his lack of knowledge of English, which made him lose his temper in tense situations.

“Anything you said to me in 2013 in English, even if you told me it was nice, I wanted a fight. I didn't know English and he [MadisonKyle Bumgarner, nicknamed "MadBum"] got upset because I hit a home run for him," said Puig, interviewed for the TikTok channel.homeplatehd.

The one also nicknamed "Caballo Loco", who now plays in the Venezuelan Baseball League with the Tiburones de la Guaira jersey, has a history of fights during games that has earned him almost as much fame as the one he has for his talent as player (he came to be classified as a five-tool player).

“The first words that come out in English are the bad ones,” Puig said in an interview in which he reviewed some of his episodes of violence on the ground. “In San Francisco all the fights were with Bumgarner and another with the catcher [Hundley]…So, the other fight I had when I was with Cincinnati, with Pittsburgh… And another one withPedro Strop, who put the ball here,” he said, pointing to his leg.

In an attempt to counteract his “bad reputation,” the Cuban baseball player said that those few had been his most notorious cases of fights, but that the press had “stretched” them, giving rise to a reputation that he apparently considers unfair.

In 2019,Puig received a ball from the Dominican Strop during a game that pitted the Reds against the Chicago Cubs, and there was almost a fight.

In that season, the Cuban was sanctioned to serve a two-game suspension after being involved in the first big fight in the Major Leagues in a game between the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Today, the former MLB playermaintains outstanding performance in the Venezuelan League of Baseball with a .476 average in 11 games, with 20 hits, five doubles, a triple, three home runs and nine RBIs.
