Several busespublic transportation from Havana were subject to vandalism this Saturday, after being stoned while carrying out their usual routes, which motivated the reactions of Cubans.

Ausepublished by theProvincial Transportation Company of Havana reports three incidents of stone-throwing on different routes.

One of the events occurred in the “bus 9002 that covered Route A 27 of the Palatino terminal”, which according to the source “while at the 26 and Puentes Grandes stop, a fight breaks out upstairs and a passer-by throws a stone through the front door, splintering the glass of the driver's cabin.”

In the other event, the stone throwing was described as “massive” against thebus 8456 covering Route A62 from the Guanabo Terminal.

It happened when the vehicle was parked at the Virgen del Camino stop. The source reported that the driver was attacked, while the individuals fled.

The last of the incidents involved thebus 5500 that covered Route 55 from Terminal Lisa and it occurred on 23rd Street and the intersection with 214th Street. The criminals fled and broke some passenger windows.

In the comments section, people repudiated these acts and expressed their disagreement with the Cuban judicial system, which is very light in adjusting these criminals, but very severe when it comes to prosecuting people's freedom of expression.

“They don't realize, that's sabotage, our laws are still soft, too soft; It is already aggression even to the people and Cubans, those buses are a good for everyone,” said one user.

Another person wrote that these acts are reprehensible. “If buses are scarce to go to work or to the hospital, how are they going to paralyze the few that run? They harm the people”he added.

One user linked the issue to the shortages that Cuba is currently experiencing. “Can't we even take a bus? You can't take the bread, nor the potatoes, there are more than 3,000 people, sometimes they are in bad condition... Please? What life is this?”, he questioned.

This criticism was supported by several comments that called for strictness in the laws. "We hope that with the situation in the country, almost in a state of emergency, the penalties will be very severe, pure crime”said another Internet user.

These acts of vandalism on public transport buses in the Cuban capital are not unrelated.

At the end of December 2023,A bus, known as P10 that covered the route from Playa to La Víbora, was stoned by a group of young people, presumably for not stopping at one of the corresponding stops.

“The driver didn't stop at the stop because he was full. And when we were halfway there, several groups of kids threw stones at the bus,” described an Internet user in the Facebook group Buses & Truck Accidents, where he also said that the first ones who threw stones were joined by others, which motivated them to The bus will continue on its way.

Recently, shortly before 11 pm last Tuesday, April 2A bus was stoned while traveling through the Centro Habana municipality, as reported on its social networks by the capital's own Provincial Transportation Company.

The entity specified thatThe vandalism took place at 10:40 p.m. in Prado between Genios and Cárcel against bus 8412, which covered route A58, which begins its journey in Boyeros and Bruzón (Plaza de la Revolución) and concludes its journey in the Bahía district (Eastern Havana).

These events occur in the midst of a context of crisis in citizen mobility in the Cuban capital, described as such byYunier de la Rosa Hernandez, general director of Transportation in the territory, during a review of the Ministry of Transportation (Mitrans).

At the beginning of March,According to official figures, 252 teams were circulating in the country's capital, a number below the number of buses that remain stopped, 309..

According to the capital manager,At Havana stops, people can spend up to three or four hours waiting for transportation., depending on whether the route is main or feeder, for which sometimes they only have one bus in operation.
