An almond tree that circulated through theCalzada de Diez de Octubre, in Havana, suffered a spectacular traffic accident around 11 p.m. this Sunday, according to several reports in the popular Facebook group Buses & Truck Accidents.
The accident occurred in the vicinity of the central and dangerousToyo Corner, which the author of one of the publications on the subject described as"the hottest corner in Havana."
At the moment it is not clear whether there were injuries or not, because despite a report that reported "several injuries", in the comments section of that publication a person denied that there were injuries.
At the moment the causes of the accident are also not clear. The published images do not also allow us to confirm whether a second vehicle was involved.
In the published photos it is seen that the almond tree, green in color, sufferedsevere damage to the front left side and lost one of its tires.
According to a report from a resident in the area, the damaged vehicle remained at the scene for a long time, despite it being a narrow road with a lot of traffic.
In the comments section of one of the publications, a Cuban resident outside the country attacked the almendrones and said that they had to be changed, an opinion that many responded by saying that yes, it would be ideal, but it is impossible given the problems of a country where by no means there is no flour even to make bread.
As of the closing of this note, there are no other details about what happened.
Toyo Corner is a hot spot for road accidents in Havana.
In June 2021, shocking images circulated that showed how on that cornera 1950s Ford truck collided with a motorcycle and dragged it until they were both almost embedded against the bakery that is located on the Havana road.
In that case, despite how central and busy the avenue is, fortunately there were no injuries among the drivers involved in the accident or among the pedestrians.
Road accidents of all kinds have not let up on Cuban roads since the beginning of the year, following the same trend that already marked 2023.
Last year 729 people lost their lives in Cuba as a result of traffic accidents. The authorities counted 8,556 road accidents that left 5,938 injured. The human factor was responsible for 91% of these events, the authorities said.
In one of the most recent accidents, aelderly man died on Friday in Santa Clara, Villa Clara, after being run over by a tourist rental car that was allegedly coming at high speed, according to reports on social networks.
A post in the Bus & Truck Accidents Facebook group stated that the elderly man was cleaning the street at the time he was hit by the vehicle.
