Friends, co-workers and family Harold Vergara Padron, director of culture in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality of Havana, lamented this Sunday the death of the Cuban intellectual.
“Today we say goodbye to Harold Vergara Padrón (1979-2024), our director of Plaza Distrito Cultural: the great dream that he has cherished since 2019,” he published in Facebook the cultural directorate of the municipality.
Vergara stood out as a cultural promoter, theater artist, actor, professor at the University of the Arts, in addition to founding and directing the El Paso Teatro group.
During his career he received multiple awards and recognitions in the years he was in charge of the culture department of the Plaza de la Revolución municipality.
He was one of the architects in the restoration of the Alejo Carpienter municipal library, belonging to the House of Culture on Calzada y 8, whose capital repair he devoted himself to in recent years, reported the official. Havana Tribune.
He also participated in the cultural and social transformation of the socially disadvantaged communities El Fanguito, LaTimba, La Dionisia and Lindero 14, according to the news newspaper.
The Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, wrote in the red social X: "We deeply regret the death of colleague Harold Vergara, who served for years as Director of Culture of the Plaza de la Revolución municipality. His dedication to work, creativity and leadership will be remembered by many. My condolences to his family and friends."
Rolando Lopez Jiménez, Municipal Mayor, municipal directors and officials from the government and the cultural sector held an honor guard for Vergara, at the Calzada y K funeral home.
