Actor Bernard Hill, known for The Lord of the Rings and Titanic, dies at 79

Hill held the record of being the only actor in the world to have acted in two of the three 11-time Oscar-winning films: Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

British actor Bernard Hill, known for his participation in the films Titanic and in the film saga of The Lord of the rings, died at the age of 79.

His representative confirmed the news to the television network this Sunday. BBC, without specifying the cause of death.

Hill had a prolific career spanning more than 40 years in both film and television.

After decades of work, he became world famous thanks to two performances on the big screen: that of Captain Edward J. Smith of the Titanic in James Cameron's film, and that of King Théoden in The Lord..., the popular adaptation of Tolkien's fantasy world, a role that earned him the Society of Film Critics Award as well as several other award nominations.

With both roles he set a record, being the only actor who worked in two of the three films that won 11 Oscars: Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). The other is Ben-How (1959).

On television, his participation in relevant series is remembered I, Claudio and Boys from the Blackstuff. The latter denounced the unemployment problems in England during Margaret Thatcher's government.

In the cinema he participated in other films such as the Oscar-winning Gandhi (1982), Shirley Valentine (1989), Imminent execution (1999), alongside Clint Eastwood; The scorpion king (2002), with Dwayne Johnson, and Operation Valquiria (2009), con Tom Cruise.
