A young Spaniard, (@izzydizzy_95 on TikTok), shared his experience after spending a week in Cuba, where he encountered a situation that left him in shock. In his video, the young tourist acknowledged that, although he was aware of the difficulties on the island, he did not expect them to be so extreme.
"Well, this week I have been in Cuba and the truth is that it has been quite a shock for me. I knew that the country's situation was complicated and all that, but I didn't imagine it was so, so complicated, to be honest," he began his story.
Regarding safety on the island -something that they asked him about- he assured that he had no issues: "It's safe, I mean, I haven't had any problems with anyone. I have walked alone at night, drunk... nothing, no issues."
However, she is not so sure when it comes to recommending the destination to tourists due to the difficult situation she observed: "Power outages have been heavy, like really heavy, I mean, there were times where we were without a fan or there was no electricity at night, so we didn't have a fan, we didn't have air conditioning, and it was unbearable."
In her empathetic testimony, she also mentioned the difficulties in acquiring basic goods: "To buy, it has also been a problem, I mean, you have to have a card. I don't know, there are certain cards that they don't accept."
While he lamented the situation, he highlighted the human quality of Cubans and recognized the harshness of the reality they face: "Ultimately, it's a pity because it's a really cool island with very cool things, the people are very nice but they are going through a horrible, horrible, horrible situation."
Her testimony, which ended with the wish that the "situation improves in Cuba," has sparked reactions on the internet, where many Cuban users thanked her for her sincerity and empathy.
You are still in shock, I have a friend who came to Spain with just the clothes on her back, because she was so sad that she gave away her clothes; "Thank you, my friend, I am Cuban, I managed to emigrate with my family but the situation is terrible, Cubans have lost their joy"; "You are absolutely right, that's how my country is, it hurts"; "It's reality, handsome!!! Thank you for your comments, because there are many people who are unaware of the reality"; "Thank you for speaking the truth, I give you a like and a heart, I am Cuban"; "I went last November with my ex-husband and the same thing happened to me"; "I am Cuban, the best way to help the people is not to travel, not to be complicit with a dictatorship, your money is being used by the dictatorship to repress the people. No travel Cuba"; "60 years of dictatorship in Cuba and 25 years of dictatorship in Venezuela, Welcome to communism, without electricity and without water," reads among the dozens of messages that accumulated within a few hours of the post being shared.
Some comments, on the other hand, also reflected concerns beyond Cuban borders and warned about the future of Spain: "And wait for Pedrito to take Spain down the same path"; "Spaniards, fight not to reach that point. Don't think you are very far away on the path you are on. Venezuelans didn't think it would happen to them either," "That's communism for you. Let Sánchez install it here in Spain," they commented in that regard.
