Walmart launches expandable and affordable prefab homes for online purchase.

These are the houses that can be found at Walmart starting from $12,000. With a bedroom, living room, kitchen/dining area, and bathroom, they provide an affordable and functional solution to the makeshift efficiencies available for rent.

The chain of department stores Walmart has begun offering expandable prefabricated houses that stand out for their easy installation and quick assembly, available with free shipping when purchased online. These homes, designed with integrated windows and insulated walls and ceilings, feature a luxurious interior design and are completely removable and relocatable, allowing owners to move them if necessary. Additionally, they include a secure lockable door, providing increased security.

All units include four areas designated for a bedroom, living room, kitchen/dining room, and bathroom, thus providing a functional and comfortable space for their buyers. They are developed by the Chery Industrial group and manufactured in China.

Rental prices in Miami-Dade County continue to rise, with listings exceeding a thousand dollars for an efficiency in the competitive local market. On social media, one can find ads for rooms with private bathrooms for $1,000 or more, including furniture and amenities, reflecting the persistence of high rates, despite slight reductions in some areas. In an extreme example, one ad offers a bathroom converted into a room, with just a bed added, for $1,295.

In Miami-Dade, the real estate market has demonstrated significant growth over the past 15 years, where homeowners have doubled their profits. This increase has been driven by the massive influx of new residents with higher incomes and the high percentage of cash purchases, which has shielded the market from the high mortgage rates that affect other areas of the country.

On February 5, 2024, a report indicated that rental prices in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa have experienced a significant increase, ranging between 15% and 23%. This increase has generated intense competition in the search for affordable housing, causing tensions in the real estate sector and prompting authorities to consider policies to alleviate this housing crisis.

On the other hand, in January 2024, young Cuban Lilian Gómez, a realtor in Miami, expressed her criticism on TikTok regarding the abusive requirements for renting homes in Miami. Gómez denounced that many landlords demand exorbitant security deposits, complicating access to housing for local residents. This call prompted a wide debate among internet users, who discussed the feasibility of continuing to live in Miami given these high rental costs.
