A motorist was injured in Santiago de Cuba after being struck by a FAR truck

A motorist was injured after being struck by a truck from the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) on a central street in Santiago de Cuba.

The accident occurred this Sunday on Escario and Pedrera streets, as reported on social media by journalist Yosmany Mayeta based on witness accounts.

"The driver, who was the most affected, remained lying on the floor for about 10 minutes, appearing dead, but then he started to move. The people present lifted him to put him in a vehicle to take him to the hospital," detailed a source.

Witnesses stated that the driver of the truck involved—marked on the side with the initials UCM (Military Construction Units)—attempted to flee, but those present at the scene of the incident prevented him from leaving.

The car would belong to the military unit in Antilla, but it was working at the Cemento Moncada factory, as specified by Mayeta Labrada.

Some photos showed the damage to the motorcycle, as well as the spillage of both gasoline and blood from the injured individual on the ground.

"I wish you a swift recovery; all your siblings from the piquera are praying for you," wrote a source close to the victim in the comments section of the post.

Several sources confirmed that the injured individual, who was reportedly taken to Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital, is now back home.

"Thank God he is alive, with injuries but alive," said a source close to the injured person.

"It is clear that the truck driver ran the stop sign, and the engine had the right of way," noted an internet user in reference to the alleged responsibility of the heavy vehicle's driver in the incident.

Several internet users criticized the truck driver and speculated that, since it is a truck from the FAR, there will be no consequences.

“Of course, now they take him down from the truck and give him a Lada to drive for the bosses, which is why he wanted to flee. The stop sign is very clear there,” noted a commentator.

"Now, since it's from the FAR, nothing happens. They take that driver down and put him in another car, while the poor motorist has to bear the burden of all the costs to fix his bike, because the state pays him about 200 pesos MN a month until he reaches the amount they set," another one added.

"That's the trend now: they hit people, flee the scene, and everything stays as it is. And if that car belongs to the FAR, ufff, nothing happens. They'll just say that the driver was drunk, and if the doctor says otherwise, they'll even cancel the mission," declared a third party.
