A desperate father offered a reward in Havana this Thursday to recover his 4-year-old daughter's lost doll, who has autism.
The toy, a hard rubber Cinderella doll that holds great emotional value for the girl and is essential for her daily activities and peaceful sleep, was recently lost in the municipality of Santa Fe, Havana, and her family is seeking help to find it.
Jesús, the girl's father, posted this Thursday in the group Facebook “Help for Mothers” a message through the profile of the mother, Suly Rodríguez, explaining what happened.
According to the post, the doll fell from the car while they were driving along 5th Street between 294 and 3rd C, in front of a produce stand located in a garage, near the Santa Fe polyclinic.
Although the little girl tried to alert her parents at the time, her condition of autism and difficulty communicating prevented them from understanding what had happened immediately.
"My daughter is autistic, and she did everything with that little doll. She even covered it with a blanket to sleep. When it fell out of the car, she tried to get out to look for it, and we didn't let her because we didn't understand what was happening. Since then, she hasn't stopped crying and couldn't fall asleep until 3 in the morning," Jesús explained in the post.
The family provided precise details of the location where the doll went missing, along with images of the doll, hoping that someone might help retrieve it.
“Please, if anyone found it or gave it to someone else, we ask that you return it to us. We are willing to pay a reward, but the most important thing is that my daughter can have it back,” the father added.
To arrange the return of the doll, the family has provided the contact numbers for Jesús, the father, at 59162020, and for Suly, the mother, at 53397012.
Numerous expressions of solidarity have been shown towards the parents of the girl following the loss of the doll. Among them was the gesture from Annie Zúñiga González, who offered to gift an identical doll from her daughter's collection: "I have one just like it because my daughter collects princesses. I can give it to you without any problem. I'm from 10 de Octubre," she wrote in the comments of the post, which was met with immense gratitude from the parents.
In their response, the parents expressed their deep gratitude for Annie's generosity, but explained that they had already received other nearby offers: "Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. There's a mother who wrote to us last night who also has one, but she has a two-year-old girl and another who is seven. We felt sad to seek the doll because we understand that those girls also need it. Fortunately, another mother who lives close to us offered one that her daughter no longer uses, and we are going to pick it up," they explained.
They also noted that a young woman residing in Texas offered to buy a similar doll and find a way to send it to Cuba, which filled them with hope: “We are immensely grateful to all the people who have supported us. Today, our little girl will have a doll just like hers, God willing. May your daughter enjoy her collection, and don't worry, truly, thank you, thank you, thank you,” they wrote excitedly.
