Various forest fires remain active in Pinar del Río and have consumed over 160 hectares in one week, as acknowledged by the authorities of that province.
The official local media Tele Pinar reported that in the municipalities of Mantua and San Juan y Martínez fires are still being battled. For his part, Lázaro Boza, a journalist for that newspaper, explained that the extreme drought has caused incidents that are consuming parts of the forests, wildlife, and endanger homes and tobacco curing houses.
