From the march to the hospital: young man stabbed during May Day celebrations in Santiago de Cuba

Darién Almenares Sollet was stabbed during a May Day celebration in Santiago de Cuba while intervening in a fight. Despite rumors of his death, he is recovering in a local hospital.

A young man identified as Darién Almenares Sollet, residing in the Nito Ortega neighborhood of Palma Soriano in the province of Santiago de Cuba, was stabbed in the back on May 1 during the festivities organized by the regime following the official parade.

The aggression occurred in one of the areas designated by the authorities for attendees to continue "dancing" after the parade. According to the young man's family, speaking to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the attack was not aimed directly at Darién, but he intervened to defend his brother, who was engaged in a dispute that escalated into violence.

Despite the false rumors about his death circulating on social media, family members have confirmed that Darién is alive and recovering at the Ambrosio Grillo Hospital in Santiago de Cuba. An image released from the medical ward where he is hospitalized confirms his recovery status.

So far, the identity of the attacker has not been confirmed, nor is it known whether they are in police custody. The case is raising concerns among local residents, as it took place during a large public event organized by the government.

The incident occurred during the official May Day parade, in which, according to figures from the Cuban regime itself, more than 5.3 million people reportedly participated nationwide. The festivities following the march, such as those held in Santiago de Cuba, are organized by the authorities as part of the political propaganda apparatus.
