The student Heiler Daniel Díaz Masso, who was seriously injured last Sunday during a violent incident at the "Antonio Maceo" Pre-University Vocational Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), is progressing satisfactorily.
The reporter Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, based on sources close to the young man, confirmed that the 16-year-old student, originally from the town of Chamarreta in the San Luis Municipality, is admitted to the Dr. Antonio María Béguez César Children's Hospital, where he is recovering from a skull fracture and kidney inflammation.
"He is drinking milk, juice, and is improving, he has already asked to go home, but he still can't. A relative who requested to remain anonymous told Mayeta."
The boy has not yet been discharged from medical care as he must remain under observation due to the head injuries he sustained after falling from a ledge while trying to escape from attackers who broke into his dormitory.
Díaz Masso fell from his shelter this Sunday while trying to jump from the second to the first level of the building, in an attempt to evade the citizens who had entered the center and intended to assault him.
Cuban authorities confirmed that this Tuesday, they detained three young individuals involved in the violent incident. Allegedly, the apprehended individuals are known to frequently visit the recreational area of the institution and entered a dormitory to assault students.
On the day of the incident, the suspects were inside the campus, sitting in the park, and the students threw water at them from the dormitory windows.
That would have been the catalyst for the events. The intruders, after being splashed by the students, went up to the shelter and started a fight.
It was then that Díaz Masso, a tenth-grade student, fell to the pavement in his attempt to escape, and was seriously injured, with a skull fracture and swollen kidneys from the impact.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the Provincial Education Department reported that teaching activities at the IPVCE continued according to the planned school calendar.
Several versions of the case mention the use of bladed weapons by the attackers, but the government has not made a statement regarding this.
The authorities are investigating to clarify the incident and take appropriate legal action against those responsible. Deficiencies in the school's security have been reported, which had not been addressed despite similar past incidents.
