An alarm triggered at a pawnshop located in the La Penal neighborhood of Guadalajara, Mexico, set off an intense police chase with gunfire early Tuesday morning, which ended with the arrest of three suspected criminals, one of whom is of Cuban nationality and has an outstanding arrest warrant in Baja California.
According to the Guadalajara Police on the social network X, the suspects are part of a criminal gang identified as "Los Cubanos," which is engaged in the robbery of commercial establishments in various locations across the country.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Álvaro Obregón and Sebastián Allende, in the vicinity of the old city prison.
Pursuit, gunfire, and arrests
Following the alarm alert, municipal agents arrived at the scene and spotted several individuals running across the rooftops of nearby buildings. As they attempted to intercept them, the alleged criminals opened fire on the officers, who returned fire in self-defense.
One of the suspects was injured during the confrontation and apprehended on site. The other two managed to flee temporarily, but were captured shortly after: one just a few meters from the chase and the third following a search operation.
Identified and armed
According to Telediario, the detainees have been identified as: Orley “N”, 40 years old, a Cuban citizen with an outstanding arrest warrant in Baja California; Ricardo Alan “N”, 28 years old, a Mexican with three previous incarcerations for possession of a firearm; and Víctor Manuel “N”, 41 years old.
During the arrest, they seized a 16-gauge shotgun with two usable cartridges, as well as tools for forcing locks and cutting metal: an electric saw, two screwdrivers, a pair of cutting scissors, and a cordless grinder.
Extensive police deployment
The operation led to a significant mobilization of security units, which concluded on the streets Juan de Dios Robledo and Javier Mina, where traffic was even halted for several minutes. The wounded criminal was attended to by paramedics from Cruz Verde, remaining at the scene under custody.
The three men have been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office, which will continue the relevant investigations. The police do not rule out that the gang may be linked to other robberies reported recently in the state.
In March, at least seven individuals, presumably of Cuban origin, were detained in the early hours in the exclusive residential area of Pok Ta Pok, located in the Hotel Zone of Cancun, following reports of gunfire.
According to local media reports, the events took place at kilometer 7.5 of Kukulcán Boulevard, when investigating officers were conducting a search in the area and were shot at. In response to the attack, authorities activated the "Código Rojo," requesting reinforcements to handle the situation.
In August 2024, three Cuban citizens were arrested and charged with drug dealing during an operation carried out by the police in the Mexican state of Hidalgo in the municipality of Mineral de Reforma.
The Cubans, along with a Guatemalan and a Mexican, are members of a gang that extorts local residents and merchants in the area.
