The renowned Cuban actor Jorge Losada, aged 91, is in stable condition and under medical observation, according to art director Luis Lacosta, who is close to the artist.
"To those who have asked me, this Friday Losada woke up stable, slept quite well, had breakfast, and this morning they expect to take him to the hospital for a new medical check-up," wrote Lacosta on his Facebook wall, bringing reassurance to the followers and friends who have been concerned about the health of the beloved actor.
A fragile health, multiple hospitalizations, and the support of the community
On April 30th, Jorge Losada was discharged after being admitted to the Manuel Fajardo University Clinical Surgical Hospital, where he received medical care for reasons that were not disclosed.
Lacosta then thanked the hospital staff for their swift intervention: "Actor Jorge Losada is now home. Thanks to Hospital Fajardo and its outstanding and excellent doctors, the great scare they put us through has ended," he expressed.
Previously, he had requested A Positive blood donations, which were crucial to stabilize the elderly man.
After the transfusions, it was announced that Losada's health had improved significantly and that no more donations were needed. The quality of service received at the hospital was also highlighted, being described as "excellent."
In recent years, Jorge Losada has faced several health challenges.
In April 2024, he was hospitalized due to complications with a hip prosthesis that had shifted out of place, causing him severe pain.
That situation led to the need for a wheelchair, but the lack of resources and institutional indifference forced him to turn to civic solidarity, appealing for support on social media to obtain one.
Ongoing support on social media
This is not the first time Lacosta has turned to digital platforms to mobilize aid.
In 2021, after surgery that left the veteran actor with severe anemia, he also publicly requested medications that were in short supply in the country.
Several people responded quickly, showing the great affection the public has for the artist.
Despite his health problems, Jorge Losada remained active on Cuban television.
In 2023, she participated in the telenovela "Renacer," an experience she described with humor and emotion as possibly her "last appearance."
"Because I’m a gossip and in real life I’m not, but in the soap opera I talk badly about everyone and I don’t even know why," he commented in an interview with actor Ulises González for Cubaactores.
"And perhaps it will be my last appearance, leaving that bad... image," he/she added tenderly.
