The police in Holguín arrested those responsible for the child abuse case that provoked nationwide outrage in Cuba this Sunday after it went viral on social media.
“Authorities of the PNR of the province of Holguín executed the arrest and custody order issued by the provincial Prosecutor’s Office for the interrogation of citizen Elizabeth González Díaz (originally from Ceballos, Ciego de Ávila) and her husband,” reported on Facebook the official profile Comunicador Mamanantuabo.
The two detainees are "both implicated in the brutal abuses reported just hours ago on various social media profiles regarding their 10-year-old daughter, for whom the husband is a stepfather and not a biological father, and who is also allegedly the one recording the shocking and atrocious video. A police operation has been launched, and they are under arrest," the information adds.
This Sunday, this case of child abuse sparked outrage in Cuba as it went viral on social media.
In the images, sit was seen how a mother brutally beat her young daughter with a stick.
The girl, tied up in the yard, ends up bleeding and terrified.
According to activist Lara Crofts, the mother was identified on social media as “Elizabeth González Díaz, a resident of Ceballos, who has been labeled by her own neighbors as a violent and confrontational woman since her adolescence.”
"What exacerbates this barbarity is the coldness with which another person records the incident, as if it were a spectacle. Even worse, they force their other child to pour cold water on the head of the assaulted girl to 'clean' the blood, subjecting him to a psychological torture that will scar him for life," the activist stated.
"And amidst the chaos, he yells at the girl that he can 'end her life.' This is not discipline, it is an intolerable crime! No school mistake justifies threatening or harming a child in this way," he added.
The activist questioned that “the authorities in Ciego de Ávila, especially the police, seem blind to these horrors. They ignore the cries of children, but act with cruelty against dissenting voices.”
Finally, despite being from Ceballos, the woman apparently lived with her family in Holguín, where she was arrested.
