They declare a document "secret" to prevent defense of arrested Cuban: "They have removed the lawyer."

Cuban authorities have classified a key document as secret, leaving William Sosa without legal defense. His lawyer was withdrawn due to an inability to access the case file, which exacerbates his legal vulnerability.

Cuban authorities prevented the lawyer of political prisoner William Sosa, who resides in the province of Las Tunas, from accessing key documents in his case file, by suddenly classifying them as “secret” and “sensitive material”, a legal maneuver that left the accused without defense at the most critical moment of the process.

Miguel Sosa, the son of William, reported on social media that the attorney was removed from the case on the grounds that she does not have the necessary authorization to consult an administrative warning that, in theory, his father should have received in hand months ago.

That warning, which until now was considered a regular document, was suddenly raised to the category of “classified” and “secret,” which, in practice, prevents the lawyer from knowing its content and using it in the defense strategy.

They have removed the lawyer responsible for their defense. "The legal justification is incomprehensible," wrote Miguel.

"They have decided to categorize as 'classified document' and 'secret' a simple administrative warning that my father must have received in person months ago."

For the family, this is a clear legal contradiction: how can a document that has supposedly already been delivered and read by the interested party become secret?

The immediate effect of that decision, denounces the detainee's son, is to leave William Sosa in a state of “total legal vulnerability”, without the lawyer who had been representing him and without full access to information about his own case.

"By suddenly giving him this category, what they are achieving in practice is leaving my father without his legal defense at the most critical moment," she stated, adding that he is no longer just deprived of his liberty "for his ideas," but now faces a procedure that obstructs his fundamental right to be defended.

Miguel Sosa lamented that, with this maneuver, "the doors of justice are closing on us" and described the current moment as a worsening of the helplessness in which his father finds himself.

He recalled that William has always advocated for "analysis and transparency," and yet today he finds himself a victim of a technicality that isolates him even further from the outside world and from legal protection mechanisms.

"It is important to know that, in addition to the detention, they are now leaving him alone in front of the system," he wrote, asking for help to spread the case.

The new development comes after William Sosa was transferred to prison following his arrest on November 12, as reported by his son.

"My dad was transferred to a correctional facility today. Thank you for all the support," Miguel reported on Facebook, using his father's account to confirm the change in circumstances.

Sosa was arrested by State Security accused of the crime of “disobedience”, a provision of the Cuban Penal Code that, according to organizations and activists, is often used to punish citizens who express critical opinions about the reality of the country.

Her family believes that this is an arbitrary detention, lacking legal grounds, aimed at silencing her social media posts.

The detained person's son recalls that the authorities had already warned his father about his posts on Facebook before proceeding with the arrest.

“His crime was thinking and writing”, Miguel reported, emphasizing that William only shared economic and social analyses about the country's situation, “with respect and based on reason.”

For the family, the case demonstrates how the guarantees of freedom of thought and expression enshrined in the Cuban Constitution are practically reduced to “paper.”

In previous posts, the young man had shared an official citation proving that his father was summoned by the authorities before being detained, and he warned about the human impact of the persecution against William: “There is a home that needs him, that is waiting for him, and that is suffering a terrible anguish due to this injustice,” he wrote.

Today, in addition to that anguish, there is a strong conviction that, besides keeping him imprisoned for his beliefs, the system seeks to solidify his legal isolation by preventing his lawyer from accessing the fundamental documents of the case.
