The Cuban Deivy Alemán Oropesa sought help this Sunday to return to the United States before his young daughter’s heart surgery, which might take place as early as April 2026.
"We're hoping for a miracle that will allow us to be together in such a difficult moment," said the young man in a video shared by his wife.
The post was made on Facebook by Yisel Miguel Sarduy, a U.S. citizen and wife of Alemán, who wrote: “God willing and with someone’s help, my husband can be back before our daughter's surgery.”
In the video, Alemán expressed his concern from Cuba about his daughter's health.
“She had an appointment with her cardiologist several days ago and everything is stable, but my wife was told that next year they will start running tests for her upcoming surgery. What worries us the most is that I won’t be there with her, that they won't have my support like they did in the previous surgery. We are hoping for a miracle that will speed up our process so we can be together,” he said, distressed.
The case of this Cuban family took a hopeful turn a few days ago when the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) requested Yisel additional evidence regarding her marriage, a crucial step in the family reunification process.
Alemán, who was legally residing in the United States under immigration supervision, decided in September to voluntarily leave the country after receiving a departure order from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The decision forced him to separate from his wife and their two-year-old daughter, who has already undergone two open-heart surgeries.
“What hurts me the most is leaving the girl… she is awaiting another surgery and that is what worries me the most,” said the Cuban before returning to the island, holding on to the hope of reuniting with his family soon.
According to his wife, the immigration process remains open, and they have legal support to request a reconsideration for humanitarian reasons.
“We are making progress, I have faith that something good will happen and that he will be here before the surgery,” Yisel stated in remarks released by Univisión.
Meanwhile, the Cuban community in the United States is actively running a campaign on GoFundMe to help Yisel cover household expenses and care for her daughter during the medical process.
With hope and faith, the family awaits a response that will allow Deivy to return in time to support his little one during the most difficult moment of their lives.
