The Cuban community woke up this Wednesday to the news of the death of Manolín Vázquez, a sound engineer and YouTuber known for his podcast "Hablando Boberías", a space where he combined humor, commentary, and analysis of the dissident rap scene and urban music made in Cuba.
The passing, which occurred this Tuesday, triggered an immediate wave of messages expressing grief and disbelief on social media.
According to posts shared by users close to his circle, the news spread a few hours after Manolín published his latest video, which amplified the impact among his followers.
On Facebook, David Mederos mourned his death and described him as “the best YouTuber in Cuba” in his view, while also highlighting his work as a sound producer at Radio Mayabeque, and sent condolences to the family.
In the comments, the user themselves stated that Manolín “had suffered a heart attack”, although the official causes of death have not yet been confirmed.
Natural from Güines, Mayabeque, Manolín made his way in the ecosystem of Cuban creators through his charisma and a direct way of connecting with the audience, which allowed him to establish himself as one of the most followed voices in the discussions and controversies of hip hop and urban music.
Its format "Hablando Boberías" became a meeting point for followers seeking both entertainment and reactions and opinions on current topics.
The farewell spread across various platforms. The artist Kid Brown, for example, posted a message of mourning in which he confirmed the death of the YouTuber and recalled his humanity, sending condolences to his family and loved ones.
Fabio González, a journalist from Radio Mayabeque, reminisced about his friendship with Manolín and their time together: "From here, where the desks hold the echo of your laughter and the halls still resonate with your enthusiasm, we bid farewell to an extraordinary colleague and a friend."
"Working alongside him taught me that enthusiasm is the best driving force for a job well done, and that dedication and excellence can always go hand in hand with kindness and a good sense of humor," he wrote.
In the comments on that same post, acquaintances confirm that the cause of death was a heart attack. Previously, the young man had suffered from Oropouche, but it is unclear if the death is related to that condition.
Among the condolence messages, the one from Aldo, El Aldeano, stood out, as he expressed his shock at the news and noted that life is sometimes unfair.
