Mexican media warn about a plane linked to the Cuban power elite that has been in Mexico for several days

The prolonged presence of a private jet linked to the power elite in Cuba has raised alerts in the Mexican media and reignited old questions about the privileges, opacity, and international movements of the ruling elite of the Island.

The first notice was given by Latinus, which revealed that a Dassault Falcon 900EX aircraft, with registration T7-77PR, had been parked at the Northern Airport in Apodaca, Nuevo León, for several days.

That outlet provided the most detailed information about the aircraft, including routes, dates, registration, and usage history, based on air monitoring records and reports from transparency organizations.

According to Latinus, the jet made an unusual series of flights in a single day, on December 9, that included Cayman Islands, Panama, Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico, before remaining in Mexican territory.

Media and organizations have reported that key figures of the Cuban power structure have traveled on that aircraft, including Miguel Díaz-Canel and Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, the grandson of Raúl Castro, known as “El Cangrejo.”

The alert was taken up by the newspaper El Norte, which reported on a "controversy" among users of the Northern Airport due to the atypical, non-tourist routes of the plane and the figures who have allegedly used it, including leaders from Cuba and Venezuela. The publication emphasized the unusual nature of these movements at an airport that typically does not handle such operations.

Meanwhile, El Buen Tono, an independent media outlet based in Veracruz, confirmed that the aircraft had been parked in Apodaca for at least five days and noted that the Falcon 900EX is registered in San Marino, a common practice for planes used by the Cuba-Venezuela axis to facilitate maintenance and complicate international tracking.

The media also highlighted that the airport where the jet is located is under the administration of Grupo Mundo Maya, which is controlled by Mexican military personnel.

The case does not arise in a vacuum. For years, journalistic investigations have documented how the Cuban leadership uses luxury private jets, many of which were inherited from the close relationship with chavismo, for regional and international travel.

These flights increasingly starkly contrast with the reality of the Island, marked by power outages, scarcity, a transportation collapse, and unprecedented mass migration.

Mexico reemerges as a key point in this network of discreet travel and protected privileges. While millions of Cubans struggle to leave the country or survive in extreme conditions, a plane associated with the ruling elite remains on Mexican soil for several days, surrounded by official silence and unanswered questions.

The complaint, now widespread in various media outlets in the Aztec country, once again draws attention to a constant feature of power in Cuba: unrestricted mobility for a select few, absolute opacity, and an ever-widening chasm between those who govern and those who suffer the crisis.
