Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel criticized the Western Union's decision to suspend sending money to Cuba from third countries.
The president published a message on his Twitter account this Friday in which he once again attacked the United States Government.
"Western Union suspends remittance shipments to the Island, except from the US. Another measure against the Cuban people. This is how the empire acts, with total arrogance and contempt, but it doesn't stop anyone from us," the tweet read.
Hours later, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez joined the criticism against Washington and said that this is not an isolated measure. "The suspension of remittances to Cuba via Western Union from all countries, except the United States, is not an isolated measure," he assured.
"It reinforces the extraterritorial component of the inhumane US policy that seeks to harm our people. It is an interventionist action that violates the sovereignty of third states," he added.
In another tweet, the Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that this measure "attacks Cuban families even more."
The rhetoric used by Díaz-Canel is the same one he used last January, when He said that Cuba was prepared "to face difficult moments with or without (Trump's) re-election.""However, the town's shortage remains unsolved and, in fact, it was recently learned that the The island's government was rationing toiletries to the population.
The suspension of sending money to Cuba by Western Union came into effect on February 26, which means that the issuance of financial transfers to the company's branches in the United States and Puerto Rico is restricted.
Sending money to relatives on the Island can no longer be done from any other country, as has happened since 2016 with the authorization of the United States Department of the Treasury.
After the decision of Donald Trump's administration to limit the sending of family remittances to the Island to $1,000 dollars per quarter and eliminate donations to Cuban citizens from the United States, the new measure represents another barrier to receiving money from residents in Cuba. .
