Cuba announces new measures against the indigenous spread of the coronavirus

They suspend the sale of alcoholic beverages in bars, cafes and restaurants.

He Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero Cruz, announced this Tuesday that new measures will be put in place after entering the "limited indigenous transmission" phase of coronavirus.

In this sense, he announced that urban passenger transportation will be reorganized, which means that the number of people per bus will be limited in order to maintain adequate distancing.

He also announced the suspension of the sale of alcoholic beverages in bars, cafes and restaurants. "Only drinks would be sold to go," said Marrero.

I also explained that these gastronomic centers will close the lounge service and will prepare food "only to be consumed outside the premises and thus avoid crowding."

On March 28, it was already known that The Cuban police had prohibited the consumption of alcoholic beverages on public roads as a preventive measure to avoid possible infections.

Cessation of non-essential work

An analysis will also be carried out on the country's work activities that are not essential to then determine their cessation, "maintaining those with the greatest impact on the national economy, such as food production."

"We must identify all those that are not making a contribution, that are causing people to go out into the streets, as well as a concentration in the workplace," he explained.

Marrero said that they will act "with more rigor in confronting illegalities and behaviors that put people's lives at risk in the midst of the pandemic."

These measures, which aim to facilitate social isolation and prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country, were announced at the meeting that periodically analyzes the regime's plan to prevent and control the spread of the coronavirus in Cuban territory.

At the beginning of April, the Government also launched measures related to the arrival of flights to the country. On that occasion, the prime minister announced that the arrival to the country of all types of aircraft, whether regular or charter flights, carrying passengers, was suspended, in addition to requesting the withdrawal of foreign vessels that were sailing in Cuban territorial waters.

It was established that workers who could be vulnerable to the disease were sent home, in addition to suspending events such as the May Day parade and the XII Congress of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP).

COVID-19 has already caused the death of 11 people in Cuba and the contagion of 396 on the Island.

He Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, reported that the "limited indigenous transmission" phase is declared "when cases are confirmed in which it has not been possible to establish a link with travelers from affected areas and they are limited to small clusters in localities or institutions in the country."

The active local transmission events are located in Consolación del Sur, province of Pinar del Río; Florencia, in Ciego de Ávila; Florida, in Camagüey; and Gibara, in Holguín; which total 33 cases.

He leader of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, He stressed that the populations where there are cases of local transmission will be quarantined and that the National Civil Defense General Staff will give the corresponding instructions to the Defense Councils.
