Government of Cuba reports 22 new cases of coronavirus

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health reported a total of 22 new positive cases of the coronavirus, which brings the accumulated balance of infections throughout the island to 6,000 since the pandemic began.

The new cases were detected in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus (13), Havana (6), Ciego de Ávila (2) and Pinar del Río (1).

Of the 22 cases detected in the last few hours, 20 are contacts of people previously diagnosed with COVID-19, one whose source of infection is unknown and another whose source of infection comes from abroad.

A 68-year-old citizen residing in the Cotorro municipality, a 65-year-old Cuban citizen, resident of the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, remain in serious condition; and a 55-year-old citizen, resident in the municipality of Ciego de Ávila. All had previous pathologies such as a history of high blood pressure, among others.

A 64-year-old Cuban citizen, who resides in the Sancti Spíritus municipality and has a history of smoking problems, is in critical condition. His case is reported as critical unstable.

Of the new infections reported, 9 cases have been women and 13 men. In the case of men, 3 cases were reported in Havana and 10 in Sancti Spiritus. For their part, among women, two new cases were reported in Ciego de Ávila and one in Pinar del Río.

By age groups, the incidence of infections was 3 cases of patients over 60 years of age, the age group most at risk. Between 19 and 59 years old, the incidence was 17 new cases, while among minors the case of an 18-year-old young man and a 7-year-old boy was reported, both from the province of Sancti Spiritus and contacts of previously confirmed cases. .

Yesterday, 7,903 samples were studied. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Cuba has carried out 699,646 samples, of which 6,000 have been positive, for a 0.86% incidence.

At the close of yesterday, October 11, 3,848 patients were admitted to hospitals for clinical epidemiological surveillance, of them: 803 suspected, 2,744 under surveillance, and 301 confirmed.

59.1% (13) of the positive cases detected yesterday were asymptomatic, accumulating 3,660, which represent 61% of those confirmed to date.
