The health authorities of Santiago de Cuba took new restrictive measures due to the increase in coronavirus infections due toÓmicron variant, present so far in 13 provinces from the country.
As of Tuesday, massive activities that generate crowds were prohibited and those restaurants, bars and nightclubs that do not have natural ventilation were closed.
Raúl Leyva, director of Prosalud in the province, informed theCuban News Agency that the traditional Santiago Nights will no longer be celebrated in the main municipality, and the products sold there will be marketed in the commerce and gastronomy network.
Likewise, swimming pools and public and private transportation will operate at 50 percent of their capacities.
Leyva stressed that work centers and service facilities must have disinfectant substances to sanitize hands, feet and surfaces.
Regarding health care for patients and their contacts, it was reported that both indigenous cases and those from abroad will be admitted to healthcare units, while people who had contact with imported patients will be isolated in authorized centers in each location.
"Although the country's decision is to hospitalize pregnant women, those under 10 years of age and those over 65 with comorbidities positive for SARS-Cov-2, in Santiago de Cuba all those confirmed will do so, regardless of the risk," he said.
The official added that the direct contacts of the natives will be monitored for eight days in their homes, although if necessary they will also be transferred to institutions, after certification by the director of the health area.
Finally, the expert insisted on the importance of the quality of the investigations to identify people suspected of having the virus and guarantee their rapid isolation, as well as to accelerate vaccination with the booster dose.
These measures are announced just the day the countryIt is approaching a thousand daily cases of coronavirus, when the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) diagnosed 967 new infections, which confirms the upward trend of recent days.
Santiago de Cuba reported 14 cases this Wednesday, of which 11 belong to the main municipality.
