Salvadoran gang member is sentenced to 1,310 years in prison

A court in El Salvador sentenced this Tuesday a gang member to 1,310 years in prison for crimes that include more than 30 homicides and extortion, according to official sources.

Wilmer Segovia, belonging to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS13), who operated in the east of the country, has been found guilty of having committed 33 homicides, nine proposals to commit murders, one attempted murder and several extortions, the Attorney General of El Salvador, Rodolfo Delgado, reported on Twitter.

"The gang members who have caused so much pain and crying to the Salvadoran people are not going to come out. They will remain locked up until they pay for each of their crimes. We will take care of that," the official said on the social network.

Segovia was not the only gang member to receive a sentence of such magnitude, he was also Miguel Angel Portillo, belonging to the same MS13 gang, received945 years of confinement.

Portillo was convicted of 22 murders, four proposals to commit murder, one attempted murder and extortion.

At the end of March 2022, the Congress of El Salvador approved a strong tightening of sanctions against gang members in response to the wave of homicides that the country experienced on that date, the agency said.WHICH.
