Prestigious Spanish chef Karlos Arguiñano prepares Cuban food dishes

Arguiñano cooked habanera-style picadillo to please an elderly Cuban couple who sent him the recipe from Miami. "Very complete dish. I'm going to make it for my family," he said.

The prestigious Spanish chef Karlos Arguiñano prepared a typical dish of Cuban food on his television program: picadillo a la habanera.

Arguiñano, who has a daily slot on the Antena 3 channel, dedicated Friday's program to preparing a classic recipe of Cuban gastronomy but that very few on the Island can prepare, since its basic ingredient is beef, a product that is practically missing.

"Do you want to travel to Cuba without leaving home? Prepare a delicious Cuban picadillo in a short time with Karlos Arguiñano's recipe. With minced meat, spices, olives, raisins, white wine and tomato, you will have a spectacular dish," announced the chef on his Instagram account.

Arguiñano began his broadcast singing a song about how beautiful Cuba is and how its people dance.

"We are going to honor everything that is the tropics," he said.

The prestigious chef, who has maintained his program since the 90s, usually teaches recipes to viewers who follow him from many parts of the world.

On Friday, he pleased an elderly Cuban couple, Cira and Benito, who sent him the recipe from Miami, where they have lived since the 1960s.

"How I like that they follow us from so far away. (...) Since we have been here for so long and our cuisine is domestic, everyone does well. You see that many have Spanish origins. Their grandparents were from Cantabria, the from Benito, and her mother, when she was very young, they took her to Cuba...", she commented.

In its preparation, he used all the ingredients with which Cuban housewives traditionally cooked picadillo, including olives, raisins and diced French fries, and accompanied it with its corresponding garnish: white rice and fried ripe banana.

"Very complete dish, I'm loving it. I'm going to make it for my family, I'm going to make it for my family, I'm sure," he said.

It is not the first time that this Basque chef, one of the most recognized in Spain, shows how to make a traditional Cuban recipe.

Last April, he taught how to make imperial rice or imperial rice with chicken, and presented it as a "hearty and comforting dish very popular in Cuba."
