President Vladimir Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, refused to talk about the case of Cuban soldiers recruited to participate in the war in Ukraine, saying that the issue was the responsibility of the military.

A report from the Russian mediaTop War, states that when questioned about the participation of foreign citizens in the conflict with Ukraine, Peskov referred the journalists to the Ministry of Defense.

He said that issue was "the province of the military, and the Kremlin does not deal with such matters."

The spokesperson added that Moscow supports dialogue withHavana in all areas, including the military, a comment that coincides with that of the Russian ambassador in Cuba, who stated thatboth governments are in talks to clarify the case of the Cubans who would have been recruited.

The case of the Cuban mercenaries was uncovered after two families on the island reported that their children had been deceived by a woman who contacted them on Facebook and upon arriving in Russia enrolled them in the war.

After that scandal, the Cuban regime said that its security agencies had dismantled a "red ilegal"that involved 17 people and that allegedly recruited Cubans to participate in the military operation in Ukraine on the side of Russian troops.

Then a team of Ukrainian hackers obtained information from an email from a Russian military officer about nearly 200 passports of Cubans who are supposedly serving as mercenaries hired by Russia.

Likewise, the independent press revealed the name of a key figure in this recruitment plot, the representative of the Ulyanovsk Regional Office of the Russian Society of Friendship with Cuba and administrator of the Facebook group created by himself and named 'Russia for Cubans', Vladimir Shkunov.

Under pressure from these revelations, the Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a statement rejecting any form of participation in the invasion of Ukraine and emphasized that mercenarism is a crime in the country.
